What to expect when fishing through the seasons in Naples Florida.
Our winter-time fishing pattern generally spans from December to March. During these months, the cooler weather and water temperatures push the fish into the backwater bays, creeks, and river mouths. We typically use live shrimp and jigs to target a variety of species such as redfish, seatrout, sheepshead, snapper, and pompano. Winter is a great time of year to catch fish for the dinner table! Fish will bite all day, so morning and afternoon trips are available!
Spring goes by quickly in south Florida, From March to May, cold fronts are further apart and less impactful on the weather and water. Winds start to calm, and the water starts to clear up. As the water warms, fishing starts to get more productive towards outer bays, beaches and passes. Live baitfish are the primary bait in the spring, and we target snook, redfish, seatrout, mangrove snapper, tarpon, and sharks. Fishing can be great all day long, but is tide-dependent, be sure to ask when the tides are favorable when you book!
May to September, generally either calm and hot, or stormy here in southwest Florida. Summer fishing action can be some of the best of the year, but is typically in the first and last few hours of daylight. Snook, jack crevalle, tarpon, redfish, and sharks are all active this time of year and will take a variety of bait such as live baitfish, live crabs, and cut bait. Summer is our rainy season, with thunderstorms coming in nearly every afternoon, mornings are the best and safest bet for fishing. If the morning doesn’t work for you we can also do an evening trip, typically from 4-5 pm til sunset.
September to December, generally starting to get some cooler mornings and evenings which are very enjoyable after the summer heat. Fish can be found seemingly all over the backwaters, beaches, and passes. With the right conditions, every inshore species is catchable in the fall. It’s a great time of year to fish, not quite to peak season yet so the waterways are quiet, and the weather is mild!
